Meeting with CNOOC International, China’s largest offshore crude oil and natural gas producer, pointed to potential partnerships
The coordinator of the Edge Innovation Center and professor at the Institute of Computing at the Federal University of Alagoas, Rodrigo Paes, received, this Wednesday (17), Xuefeng Hu, program manager, and Luiza Gonçalves, Research, Development and Innovation assistant, from CNOOC International, a division of CNOOC Limited, China’s largest offshore crude oil and natural gas producer. The meeting was attended by the administrative coordinator of LCCV/Ufal, Aline Ramos, and by the technical team from Edge, which works on projects in the Oil and Gas sector.
On the occasion, the representatives from CNOOC visited the facilities of the Jaraguá Innovation Center and learned about Edge’s management model and projects in its various areas of activity, such as Industrial Automation, Embedded Systems and Artificial Intelligence, where software and hardware technology applications are developed, in addition to equipment that supports the production processes of companies in the most diverse segments, focused on Industry 4.0.
A history of Edge was also presented, having been created in 2015, which has become a national reference in research and development projects, with its portfolio of partners including large companies, such as Dell, Embraer, WEG, Canon, Thales, Petrobras and General Electric. Spread across seven laboratories, Edge has over 250 high-performance professionals and, since 2020, has been accredited as an Embrapii unit, which provides the seal of approval for its scientific and technological skills to work on innovation projects for the industrial sector.
“I am surprised by Edge, a very well-structured innovation center linked to the University, which has technology projects capable of serving many industrial sectors. I believe that Edge can add technical projects to our company,” said Hu.
For Edge coordinator Rodrigo Paes, this type of interaction with international companies offers an even broader understanding of market needs and new technologies, and expands the possibilities for working on projects capable of meeting strategic business objectives. “Since 2017, Edge has been developing solutions for companies in the Oil and Gas sector, nationwide. Having the possibility of expanding our operations to the segment automatically generates new challenges and a consequent growth in knowledge related to business intelligence. As is the case with other demands, with the partnership with LCCV, we can think of effective deliveries for the challenges faced by CNOOC”, he explains.
About CNOOC – With operations in more than 20 countries, CNOOC’s portfolio is comprised of assets in some of the world’s most important basins, spread across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, with a business focused on the exploration and safe production of conventional offshore, unconventional and tar sands assets.
